Gandalf the White-The Resurrected
Gandalf's name when, after fighting Durin's Bane, the balrog, and dying, he came back to life as a more powerful and wiser being. He was Saruman as he should have been, wise and good, having no desire for the ring. When Gandalf first met them in the woods of Fangorn Gimli mistook him for Saruman. After that happy surprise the four of them (Gimli, Legolas, Aragorn, and Gandalf) went to Edoras where they aroused King Theoden of Rohan who had fallen under the influence of Grima Wormtongue and Saruman, and made plans. Then Gandalf left on an errand before coming to the Battle of Helm's Deep against Saruman's orcs, the Uruk-hai. After the battle they went to Isengard, where Gandalf talked to Saruman and split his staff, and also took possession of a palantir, one of the ancient seeing stones. Days after this Gandalf and Pippin made their way to Minas Tirith, city of Gondor, where they readied for and fought the battle of Pelennor Fields. The end drew near after the battle, and companies of Gondor soldiers and others from the area mustered their strength and rode to the Black Gate, where they fought their final battle and are rescued by the eagles.
In the months afterward Gandalf walked back with the hobbits and they parted their ways near the Old Forest, Gandalf going to talk to Bombadil. Later he left in a ship in the Grey Havens, for his work in Middle-earth was done, Sauron being defeated. And that is the last we know of Gandalf the Maia.
